Unique features of the Bengali language:

The International Mother Language Day
The International Mother Language Day (IMLD) was declared by the General Conference of UNESCO in November 1999. This has been celebrated since 2000 to promote all the languages of the world some of which are on the verge of extinction.

The International Mother Language Day was proclaimed as the international recognition of the Language Movement Day, which has been commemorated in Bangladesh since 1952. In the 21st February of 1952, a number of students of the University of Dhaka and Dhaka Medical College were killed by the Pakistani police in Dhaka during the processions of Bengali Language Movement protests.

Bangladesh
The name of "Bangladesh" was originated from "Bangla" (this is how we call "Bengali" in our own language) and "Desh" (it means "country" in Bengali. Is there any other country in the world that were named by the name of a language?

West-Bengal
The name of a province of India is also named by the Bengali language. This is the neighboring state of Bangladesh and it is called West-Bengal.
